CNN reporters who 'quarreled' with American presidents were allowed to return to covering the White House

Harian Press. The White House has restored permission to cover CNN reporter Jim Acosta, less than two weeks after its access to the White House was lifted following a fierce 'quarrel' with President Trump at a news conference.

The decision was issued a few days after a judge ordered the government to restore the journalist's press card to cover the White House.

In an announcement on Monday, the White House also issued "rules on future press conferences".

In the new rules, among others, it is stated that the possibility of limiting one question to each journalist.

In addition to the limitation of the question, the White House added in a letter to Acosta, that the restoration of his permit only passed "at the discretion of the president or other White House officials".

The letter warned that there would be further action against Acosta unless he followed the new rules.

Trump has threatened to leave a press conference if journalists do not act "politely".

Responding to the White House's decision to restore permission for him to cover the White House, Acosta said he was now waiting for certainty.

How did the revocation of the coverage begin?

During a press conference on November 8, a White House staff member tried to take the microphone that was being used by Jim Acosta.

At that time Acosta tried to ask a follow-up question to the president.

In the press conference, Donald Trump called the CNN reporter a 'rude and horrible person'.

And a day later he was banned from covering all Trump's activities in the White House.

CNN filed a lawsuit so that Acosta was allowed to return to cover the White House. This effort is supported by various other media, including Fox News, whose reporting orientation is conservative.

In an interim decision on Friday, a judge in Washington DC said the government was not allowed to revoke rights covering Acosta.

Save face

Looking like an old man who did not show anger, but unable to cover up his disappointment, the White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued a series of rules which he said would govern acceptable journalist behavior.

The regulation, of course, leads to various interpretations. Which journalist will be the first to be able to ask various questions at once? Who should determine the follow-up questions that are considered appropriate?

It seems that the regulation was created as a way to save the face of the government after losing a legal battle that they could not have won.
